How to use this planner

  1. Plan the day before

At the end of your day, fill out your planner for tomorrow. This helps you end your day knowing what tomorrow will look like and offer peace of mind. You can fill this out first thing in the morning, but I prefer to hit the ground running, and doing it at the end of the day helps my brain know the day is over and not take work home with me, but instead leave it on the paper.

  2. Top 3

Pick up to three tasks you need/want to complete for the day. These are your top three. Many of our days are filled with communication, meetings, and travel, so keeping your main goal list short helps ensure success and creates momentum.

  3. To-Do

Your to-dos should either be tasks you think you can get done after your top 3 or things you’ve actively gotten done during the day. I’ve often taught my team members to write down what they’ve done, not just what they need to do. This helps create a sense of accomplishment that to-do lists tend to suck out of us.

  4. Gratitude Practice

Gratitude practice is one of the most underrated brain exercises you can do. If you are unfamiliar, I recommend watching An Antidote to Dissatisfaction - by Kurzgesagt. This was my first introduction to gratitude practice, and it had a big impact on my mental health. Gratitude journaling can feel awkward initially, but I highly recommend doing it even if you can only do it a few times a week.

  5. Schedule

Write down all the meetings and events you have the day before. This will help keep them at the top of your mind so you won’t feel surprised or unprepared. It’ll also allow you to reschedule if conflicts arise. I don’t recommend using it to block your time unless you have done this already and have found success with time blocking.
